Into Motherhood From A Rested Place

“The healing that happens in Yoga Nidra is multi-dimensional, it effects every level of our being including our emotions and mental constructions.” - Uma-Dinsmore Tuli.

LISTEN TO WELCOME MESSAGE—>

Hello and welcome. I’m so glad to have you here. I’m Gursharn, I’m a Yoga Nidra Facilitator, a Matrescence Guide and a Motherhood Studies practitioner. You’re probably here because you’re on a journey into motherhood.

I’ve stood in your shoes and journeyed there too.  I also have experienced a challenging fertility journey, in country and culture that was foreign to me. I’ve felt the pain, the sadness, the frustration, the fear, the shame and the extreme loneliness that comes with it all, especially when you’re so far from your loved ones.

I see you.

I was supported by an incredible fertility doctor and today I’m a mother to my 4 year old son. I was a ‘perfect’ patient. I followed all the advice, attended all my appointments and bone-deep exhausted, I trekked from one appointment to the next all over town on auto pilot, the endless long hours of waiting to be seen, scanning the eyes of the other women and practitioners you meet along your journey, hoping for someone to just stop and notice how huge what you’re going through really is. But I kept on going. I just wanted one thing, to fall pregnant with my baby.

The process was long and eventually I unravelled; I felt bewildered and lonelier than I’d ever had and then finally when my son arrived I experienced postpartum depression- it was hard.

Looking back, I didn’t prioritise my mental and emotional health. I didn’t take the time to understand how every aspect of my life would change as I traversed into motherhood from the moment I’d decided I wanted to have a child. I didn’t think about my emotional needs at all, let alone that the journey that I was taking was also deeply spiritual and scared- an initiation and a rite of passage of some sorts. The process left me feeling disconnected form my heart, body and my womb. I had forgotten who I was in the vulnerable body I was living in.

I wish I’d taken better care of myself, sought women who I could share my journey and experience with and who would understand what I was living.

My experience shaped and formed so many stories, expectations and beliefs I held about myself and my body and that added pressure to be a ‘perfect’ mother to my child. Unpacking these stories and beliefs created so much space for me to show up as me for myself and my child- vulnerable, resilient ‘imperfect’.

This is where my healing has brought me today. Supporting women, wherever they are on or in their journey to motherhood, to rest and make space for themselves to be mothered, to have their unique journey honoured and witnessed with love and compassion.

I would love for you to experience this deep rest and to be mothered as you move forward in your journey. You can get in touch with me using the contact form below. In the meantime enjoy this free Nidra to get you resting.

Journey well sister.

Rest well.

What is Nidra ?

Yoga Nidra literally means yogic sleep.  Its is a state of consciousness that you are guided into through a guided voice, it'll sound like a guided meditation, but it's much deeper than that. Its literally is taking you from your external world to the inner world. You can read more here.

And in this state of consciousness is where your thoughts fall back. When the thoughts fall back, you have a more expansive view and you start to perceive information, receive messages that help to guide you back home to yourself.

Physiological benefits- brain activity reduces and the body goes in an open, receptive healing state. As the body enters a healing state, you can clear up toxins at a cellular level, refresh the mind and remove baggage from the subconscious.

Benefits of Yoga Nidra are multiple

  • supports relaxation

  • rest

  • sleep

  • mental clarity

  • creativity and helps people connect to their true nature.

  • Studies have shown Yoga Nidra alleviates chronic pain, insomnia and stress.

  • Studies have shown that incorporating mind/body approaches to wellness can increase the likelihood of conception even for those undergoing IVF. Furthermore, creating space for emotional and spiritual processing alongside the scientific approach can be tremendously beneficial.

There is absolutely nothing to do. Just ‘be’.

In yoga, Nidra is ultimately a practice that is guiding you back home again and again and again.

There is beauty in bringing Yoga Nidra and matrescence together. You begin to explore the opportunity and wisdom and unpack the stories and narratives we tell ourselves- shaping of ideas, beliefs and ultimately who we are as we make this journey.

As women, REST is medicine for our mind, body and soul.

“When women are the story-tellers, the human story changes”.
